* This listing of M.A. programs is derived from the roster provided by NCA, removing those programs that do not identify a rhetoric emphasis in their graduate program. It does not include those programs that also offer a Ph.D. degree--they may too offer an M.A. degree. Those programs are listed here. Other resources for locating and evaluating M.A. programs are available. Rhetoric Review published a list in 2004 of M.A. programs in rhetoric & composition. In the 1980s, two articles surveying reputational status of terminal M.A. programs in communication. See Darlene Trott, Deborah Roach Barker, and Larry L. Barker, "Evaluation of Masters Programs in the Speech Communication Discipline, 1988," Communication Education 37 (1988): 257-262; and Deborah A. Roach & Larry L. Barker, "An Evaluation of Masters Programs in Speech Communication by Region," Association for Communication Administration Bulletin 47 (1984): 67-74.
